Laser Lipo- Technology Making Procedure Safer

October 16th, 2008

Laser technology creates a new and safer type of Lipo surgery:

Less trauma to the body- A faster recovery and quicker return to activity including sports and athletics - preservation of delicate tissue and a tightening of the skin: Do these sound like good things ? Indeed they are- especially when related to the medical procedure of Liposuction or what is now known as Lipo surgery.

The U.S. FDA has recently approved the SmartLipo Laser System. This revolutionary advance in liposuction technology allows for the permanent removal of unwanted and exercise resistant fat with little if any recovery down time. The procedure is safer and gentler than traditional liposuction and may be done in the physicians office or out-patient clinic with only a local anesthetic. Common areas of treatment include: the abdomen, love handles, inner and outer thighs, neck and chin, knees, and upper arms. SmartLipo differs from traditional tumescent liposuction in that SmartLipo uses a small high powered laser to precisely sculpt the area being treated. Traditional liposuction uses high powered suction to remove fat cells, producing unwanted injury to tissues. The SmartLipo laser’s thermal energy also produces a tightening effect on the overlying skin, thus reducing the need for additional invasive surgeries to remove excess skin. The entire procedure can take 1-2 hours to perform, and most patients exercise the next morning.

How does SmartLipo Laserlipolysis compare to traditional Liposuction:

Local Anesthesia vs. General Anesthesia
Laser Liquified Fat vs Suctioning Semiliquid Fat
Thermal Skin Tightening vs. Erratic Skin Retraction
No stitches vs. stitches
Exercise the next morning vs. painful ambulation
2 week Lycra/spandex Garment vs. 6 weeks Painful Compression Garment
Complication rate of less than 1%

Traditional liposuction is the most commonly performed cosmetic medical procedure in the United States with over 325,000 cases performed each year according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Smartlipo takes the concepts of liposculpture to new levels with faster healing and tighter skin, says Edward Lack, MD, Medical Director for MetropolitanMD, Chicagos Cosmetic Surgery Center. The Smart Lipo Laser is manufactured by Cynosure Laser Inc., and is already in extremely high demand. This new procedure has been featured in People magazine (”Has Fat Met Its Match?”), and on Good Morning America, the Today Show and Access Hollywood and is quickly becoming the next latest craze among aesthetic medicine and its exponentially increasing population of clientel.

If one is considering a lipo type of procedure- then it may be worth investigating to find a surgeon that utilizes the latest laser technology and compare their services before choosing a surgeon.

Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery- A Comparison

October 16th, 2008

Good looks are the norm these days. People are ready to go to any extent to get the perfect look so much so that getting under the knife is no longer an issue. Earlier plastic surgery was done to rectify mainly functional issues. Plastic surgeon’s were skilled enough to correct the person’s appearance in case of damage due to a mishap. Plastic and re-constructive surgery would help the patient get back to leading a normal life. Re-constructive surgery is an essential part of plastic surgery. Visiting a good plastic surgery clinic for your needs is absolutely imperative. California is known for its competent plastic surgeons and a plastic surgery clinic in Southern California would be a good place to find a good surgeon. From plastic surgery there came another branch known as cosmetic surgery. A cosmetic surgeon would correct minor problems only for aesthetic and cosmetic reasons. Almost anything is possible with cosmetic surgery today, from acne scar removal in which different methods including laser is used as acne scarring treatment methods to body contouring where various surgical procedures are used on different parts of the body to give the body a well formed look. Financing and payment plans for elective cosmetic surgery are available- DON’T GIVE UP HOPE. YOU deserve to be beautiful !

Plastic surgery can be done for various reasons. Brow lift plastic surgery actually reduces the lines on the forehead and lifts the eyebrow to make the face better defined. Brow lift surgery lasts only for about 2 hours and is usually done on local anesthesia. Another surgical option for brow lift is the endoscopic brow lift surgery where the surgery is less invasive and is best suited for those who require very less skin removal. A brow lift surgery is at times combined with a blepharoplasty surgery which is an eyelid lift surgery where the upper or lower eyelid is reshaped. Also known as eyelid tuck, the surgery removes the fat or skin on the eyelids and makes your eyes looking younger. Although blepharoplasty is a part of ophthalmology, blepharoplasty is mainly for cosmetic purposes. Choosing a blepharoplasty surgeon carefully is essential since it is not just the appearance that is at stake here but a small mistake can cost you your vision which would be a very high price to pay.

Over the years our skin tends to sag. Some people look far older than their age due to the stress and pressures in life. Anti-ageing treatment would be best suited for such patients. Alma skin tightening laser treatment is another new option that is being adopted by many today. It uses radio frequency and is a non-surgical process. Laser treatment for acne along with other laser skin treatment has produced very encouraging results. Laser skin tightening methods have a loyal clientele. Botox injection which is a derivative of Clostridium Botulinum bacterium is also a popular method of treating age related facial lines. Bovine collagen is similar to Botox and is an injection meant to get rid of wrinkles and scars. It is basically a cow skin extract that is purified and sterilized before administering to the patient. The non-surgical injection is quite sought after by patients looking for alternative treatment options.

Breast Surgery- Your Bra Can Help Your Recovery

October 16th, 2008

Financing and payment plans for elective cosmetic surgery are available- DON’T GIVE UP HOPE. YOU deserve to be beautiful !

Breast augmentation surgery is one easy way to obtain immediate gratification to improve your self-confidence and image. Post surgery recovery involves the importance of resting, taking medication, not lifting weights or exercising, use of compression garment, and then a good bra. However, many people may not understand the importance of finding a post surgery bra that fits properly and gives the patient the correct amount of support.

Advantages to the Right Post Breast Surgery Bra
The right after breast augmentation bra does not only reduces swelling, but positions the breasts correctly on the chest, shortens recovery time, improves blood circulation, and helps to flush potentially harming body fluid to help maintain beautiful breasts. Alternatively, if you are not wearing suitable garment, you may end up with a backache, thinning skin on your breasts, and or sagging breast, and no women wants that!

Breast Augmentation Recovery Garments:

Your bra size and type will vary throughout the healing process. In the beginning of recovery, you want to ensure you have the best support possible with the littlest amount of pain. Your plastic surgeon will advise compression garment. Compression garments assist in minimizing the throbbing sensation, discomfort, and pain. After your first week or so of breast augmentation surgery, another type of support garment may be suggested by your plastic surgeon and the final suggestion might be a sports bra. Sport bras firmly hold the breasts in place providing comfort, with a little less support then a compression garment, but still just enough. Soon enough you will be ready for a no under wire bra with less reinforcement.

Bra Selection for Breast Augmentation Patients is something you should discuss with your breast enhancement physician and post care nurse. Susan Baquir discussed her bra needs with her follow up nurse and found a wealth of information and brochures available.

Selecting the right bra is not always the easiest thing to do after a breast augmentation- however, it is possible. There are many factors that can help you in finding the bra that best fits your new breast augmentation look. When deciding on the right bra, keep in mind not only the band and cup size determine if it is appropriate for you, but also the location of your breasts as they sit in the cup and how they are positioned. Additionally, bras with under wire should not be worn prior to six weeks after your procedure and then on are only to be worn on occasion.

Always consult a licensed physician or similar licensed medical care facility before undergoing any medical procedure.

Augmentation breast surgery

October 5th, 2008

Breast augmentation plastic surgery (cosmetic surgery) is one of the most common procedures performed annually by members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. This is most often an elective surgical procedure meaning that it is not do to a life threatening illness but is being done for astehtic reasons. Financing and payment plans for elective cosmetic surgery are available- DON’T GIVE UP HOPE. YOU deserve to be beautiful !

Women may choose to under go breast enlargement surgery for various reasons. These personal reasons may center around breasts that are perceived to be under developed, or because of differences in the sizes of each individual breast or from changes after pregnancy or breast feeding. A women may be happy with her breasts but just want them made fuller. Often after weight loss, aging or childbirth a woman’s breast volume and shape may change. The breasts may lose their firmness or fullness and sag or not hold their position that is perceived to be pleasing to the woman. This too can lead to a woman to seek a breast augmentation.

Breast implant surgery performed by cosmetic plastic surgeons is the most popular way to improve breast shape and size. Breast enhancement using breast implants can give a woman more proportional shape and may improve self esteem. Basically, there are two primary types of breast implants: saline-filled and silicone-gel-filled implants. Saline implants have a silicone elastomer shell filled with sterile saline liquid. Silicone gel implants have a silicone shell filled with a viscous silicone gel. There have been several alternative types of breast implants that have been developed experimentally, such as polypropylene string or soy oil, but these are no longer manufactured. Because a breast implant is inside the human body it must undergo a rigerous FDA testing and approval process to determine that it is safe and that it will not cause any long term health problems to the patient.

Augmentation breast surgery may be performed via various types of incisions:

Inframammary - an incision is placed below the breast in the infra-mammary fold (IMF). This incision is the most common approach and affords maximum access for precise dissection and placement of an implant. It is often the preferred technique for silicone gel implants due to the longer incisions required. This method can leave slightly more visible scars in smaller breasts which don’t drape over the IMF. In addition, the scar may heal thicker.
Periareolar - an incision is placed along the areolar border. This incision provides an optimal approach when adjustments to the IMF position or mastopexy (breast lift) procedures are planned. The incision is generally placed around the inferior half, or the medial half of the areola’s circumference. Silicone gel implants can be difficult to place via this incision due to the length of incision required (~ 5cm) for access. As the scars from this method occur on the edge of the areola, they are often less visible than scars from inframammary incisions in women with lighter areolar pigment. There is a higher incidence of capsular contracture with this technique.
Transaxillary - an incision is placed in the armpit and the dissection tunnels medially. This approach allows implants to be placed with no visible scars on the breast and is more likely to consistently achieve symmetry of the inferior implant position. Revisions of transaxillary-placed implants may require inframammary or periareolar incisions. Transaxillary procedures can be performed with or without an endoscope.
Transumbilical (TUBA) - a less common technique where an incision is placed in the navel and dissection tunnels superiorly. This approach enables implants to be placed with no visible scars on the breast, but makes appropriate dissection and implant placement more difficult.[citation needed] Transumbilical procedures may be performed bluntly or with an endoscope (tiny lighted camera) to assist dissection. This technique is not appropriate for placing silicone gel implants due to potential damage of the implant shell during blunt insertion.
Transabdominoplasty (TABA) - procedure similar to TUBA, where the implants are tunneled up from the abdomen into bluntly dissected pockets while a patient is simultaneously undergoing an abdominoplasty procedure.

The goal of the augmentation breast surgery procedure is to make the patient pleased with her results. In the end that is the ultimate goal- she should feel her appearance is improved, she should feel comfortable with the feel and the look of the implant and should have a complete medical recovery and suffer no ill effects from the surgical procedure.

Always consult only a licensed physician or similar medical facility before undergoing any medical procedurel.

Laparoscopic Gastric Surgery

October 5th, 2008

Laparoscopic Gastric surgery (called banding) is a newer and more modern form of obesity surgery. The key descriptor of the procedure is the word “laparoscopic”- this means that opposed to a large traditional surgical incision opening (or multiple large openings), a specially trained laparo surgeon will use tiny slit openings and special instruments to perform the surgical process. The surgeon works inside the patients body by manipulating the specialized laparoscopic instruments while viewing his movements via video imaging from tiny cameras on the instruments. Financing and payment plans for elective cosmetic surgery are available- DON’T GIVE UP HOPE. YOU deserve to be beautiful !

The gastric banding process is essentially restricting the size of a persons stomach allowing one to consume only small amounts of food at one time, be satisfied between meals and consistently lose weight until the goal weight is reached. This weight loss results from a calorie-restricted diet due to portion control. Because the surgery is generally not reversed and the patients learn new eating habits, the weight loss is permanent.

The result of the laparoscopic banding technique is that it is a minimally invasive procedure in which a band is placed around the stomach. The minimally invasive style of technique greatly reduces trauma to the body and thus results in a much more rapid recovery and healing process- this also reduces the risk of potential complications during and after the surgery.

Lap-Band is well proven worldwide and is one of the most frequently performed surgical weight loss operations. Lap-Band surgery has consistent and permanent weight loss results in countless clinical trials.

Always consult a licensed physician or medical facility before undergoing any medical procedure.
